Does Your Loved One Live in a Nursing Facility?
If so, your compensation options may be limited.
Most of the programs that pay a family caregiver are offered as an alternative to nursing home care. These programs are “Home and Community-Based Services,” which means your loved one can qualify for these programs only if they’re not living in a facility already.
If you’re concerned about the care they’re receiving, you have options. First, tell the facility about your concerns. If you feel that you’re having to provide too much of your loved one’s care, it may be time review the level of care they receive at the facility. You can request a meeting to review your loved one’s care plan.
For more serious concerns, you can look into the facility’s grievance policy, or contact a Long Term Care Ombudsman program or the State Licensing and Certification Agency.
